OS EUROPEUS E OS MEDIA

Partilho convosco os resultados de um estudo e de um inquérito sobre os europeus e os media, realizado no Parlamento Europeu e divulgado ontem. O texto está em inglês, mas os dados são tão interessantes que mesmo assim justificam a sua imediata divulgação. O estudo integral encontra-se aqui.

1. Síntese da situação na UE:

"TV
Almost all Europeans (97.6%) watch television. 99% have at least one TV set at home.
The four types of programmes that Europeans mostly watch are: news and current affairs (88.9%), films (84.3%), documentaries (61.6%), sports (50.3%).

Radio
Almost 60% of the citizens within the European Union listen to radio every day.
Radio programmes that Europeans prefer are: music (86.3%), news and current affairs (52.9%), sports (17.4%).

Newspapers
46% of Europeans read newspapers 5 to 7 times a week. The highest rates are found in Finland, Sweden, Germany and Luxembourg where 77.8%, 77.7%, 65.5% and 62.7% people read newspapers 5 to 7 times a week. On the other hand in Greece, Spain and Portugal only 20.3%, 24.8% and 25.1%, respectively, do so. It is also in these three countries that the proportion of people saying that they never read newspapers is higher than in other countries (30.5%, 23.4% and 25.5% respectively).

Computer
A majority of Europeans (53.3%) does not use a computer. This is especially the case for Greece (75.3%) and Portugal (74.7%). On the other hand, more than one fifth (22.5%) uses it every day. This proportion reaches 36.7% in Sweden, 36.6% in Denmark and 32.2% in the Netherlands. A smaller proportion (14%) uses it several times a week.

Internet
34.5% of the interviewed surf the Internet: 13.5% several times a week and another 8.8% every day. Swedes (66.5%), Danes (59.4%), Dutch (53.8%) and Finns (51.4%) use the Internet more than other Europeans. On the other hand, the proportion of Internet usage is the lowest in Portugal and Greece (14.8% and 15.1%, respectively)."


2. Dados sobre Portugal:

"Television: 98.7% of the citizens in Portugal watch TV. The three types of programmes that the Portuguese watch the most are: news and current affairs (76.7%), soaps and series (38.0%), sports (37.1%).

Radio: 52.7% of the Portuguese listen to radio every day. The Portuguese mostly prefer to listen to: music (88.8%), news and current affairs (59.1%), sports (15.3%).

Newspapers: Only 25.1% read newspapers 5 to 7 times a week.

Computer: The majority of the Portuguese (74.7%) does not use a computer.

Internet: In Portugal the proportion of Internet usage is the lowest in the European Union, as only 14.8% surf the Internet. "
