Alguém me pode explicar como vai ser a vida depois de 5 de Junho se os resultados eleitorais mantiverem o PS na casa dos 30%, mostrando que não se deu em Portugal a gigantesca punição que na Irlanda e na Espanha tiveram os partidos de Governo? Isso seria um péssimo sinal para a estabilidade pós-eleitoral. Um PS que consiga resistir razoavelmente à derrocada dos partidos de Governo europeus quererá regressar rapidamente ao poder e não dará descanso a quem lá estiver. E se Sócrates continuar a mandar, na luz ou na sombra, porque não sabe fazer outra coisa, ainda mais instável será a situação, porque ele quererá ajustar as contas.

O Financial Times de hoje (29 de Maio) cita este artigo: Analysts consider an outright Socialist victory unlikely. But José Pacheco Pereira, a historian and PSD deputy, says Mr Sócrates will clearly not suffer the “colossal punishment” that voters recently inflicted on governing parties in Ireland and Spain, in spite of having imposed similar austerity measures. The latest polls give the Socialists 32-34 per cent of the vote, against 34-36 per cent for the PSD – a difference that is smaller than the margin of statistical error, amounting to a “technical tie”. According to Mr Pacheco Pereira, if the Socialists win more than 30 per cent of the vote, political stability after the election could be difficult to achieve, threatening the implementation of Portugal’s €78bn bail-out agreement with the European Union and the International Monetary Fund.
