O ABRUPTO FEITO PELOS SEUS LEITORES

Palavras de Winston Churchill no Sinews speech no Missouri logo após a 2ª grande guerra. No mesmo discurso enunciava a famosa frase: “From Stettin in the Baltic to Trieste in the Adriatic, an iron curtain has decendend across the Continent”. Pouco depois o armamento nuclear iria aparecer para lá da cortina de ferro dando origem à Guerra Fria Guerra essa que foi tudo menos fria e que levou a tragédia a muitos povos por esse mundo fora.

Hoje, ao mesmo tempo que festejamos mais uma união daquilo que a cortina de ferro separou, deparamo-nos com o perigo duma repetição da história, desta vez com uma menor visibilidade do inimigo e uma maior probabilidade de um conflito nuclear efectivo. A política externa activa dos EU e Grã-Bretanha no Afeganistão, Iraque, Líbia, Paquistão e.t.c. tem como maior virtude tentar anular a ameaça de estados activamente empenhados em programas de ADM, ou tentar controlar a produção e a existência de ADM que possam vir a cair em mãos indesejadas através de um qualquer tipo de processo interno.

Esta é uma guerra que felizmente tem sido ganha nas várias frentes, inexplicavelmente, perante o desprezo de muito dos seus beneficiários.

Agora como em 1946, perante o potencial das ADM, "It would be criminal maddness to cast it adrift in this still agitated and ununited world". Damn right Sir Winston.
